In kindergarten we are learning about numbers: recognizing, writing, counting, saying, modeling, and one-to-one correspondence.
We practice them through songs, books, and projects on whiteboards or paper.
We begin every day with our calendar routine. We sing about the "Seven Days in a Week" and all of the "Months of the Year." Then we practice saying the date while I write it on the board. They are such smart kindergarteners!

We are now starting to learn about addition. We reviewed the basics of place value because that is an essential concept in math, especially addition and subtraction!! Here is a great website video about basic addition, and there are links on the page for practice as well: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/arithmetic/addition-subtraction/basic_addition/v/basic-addition
PLEASE practice simple addition facts with your students!! The more repetition, the better. There are simple ways to make it fun- make up story problems, roll some dice and add the different amounts together, use dominoes, etc... Show them ways that you add in your life so they can see that it really is important!
We learned about patterns. There are patterns everywhere, so help your child to notice and identify patterns around them! We learned about patterns with numbers as well as colors, shapes, and sizes.
We learned about money. They are learning the names of the coins and how much they are worth. Practicing this at home would help a lot!
**Something that I need to emphasize is that 10 cents is NOT written ".10¢" with a decimal in front of it when you use the cent symbol. That would mean one TENTH of one cent. 10 cents can be written 10¢ OR $0.10. Please be aware of that and tell your children that if they ask.

We spent a couple of weeks learning about 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. The kindergarteners made their own books about these shapes! If you could review shapes throughout the day, that would be great! You can do it wherever you are, because there are shapes EVERYWHERE!
